Follow the 18-kilometre Samaria Gorge trail from Omalos to Agia Roumeli with a local mountain escort, walking at your own pace rather than in a tight group. Guides such as Pari and Dafne help with timing and safety. Bring sturdy shoes, water, snacks, and swimwear, then finish with a beach stop and ferry ride to Sougia.

“The activity in and of itself was GREAT! It was a bit confusing with the pickup but got it sorted in time. The early morning bus ride through the White Mountains as the sun rose, was beautiful. Pari was our guide. Listen to her speech near the end of the bus ride, on the way up, and you’ll have the best possible experience. She does this 5x a week, so she knows what she’s talking about and is great. The cafe at the starting point has delicious spinach pie, two small bathrooms and eating area etc etc. There are squat toilet houses along the trail also with fresh drinkable water…”

“Our guide Nic was just amazing! He was knowledgeable and great company along with very patient with this rather inexperienced hiker. The highlights were I did it and the views are spectacular. I was apprehensive and in hindsight I guess moderately difficult. Worth every unsteady step to see many of the islands I have visited from the summit of the mountain. Our local picnic lunch was wonderful a sampling of classic Greek dishes. From our guide Nic to the views to the experience It’s a 10!”
