★★★★★★★★★★4.0 · 244 reviews · 11 hours (approx.) · from $139Our pick

Leave Mexico City early for Iztaccihuatl and Popocatepetl National Park. An alpinist guide leads you from La Joya at about 3,990 meters toward 4,200 or 4,350 meters, with views of two volcanoes, Paso de Cortés, and the Valley of Mexico. The hike is short but demanding at altitude.

“I booked this last minute as I wanted to see the volcanoes and experience the awesome mountains around Mexico City and man it was worth it. I am not a very active person, and yet I was able to finish this hike (even though I was the last person in my group). The guide was very knowledgeable in the area and he was very helpful in getting our group to the summit. It is a relatively short hike (in case of you are super hiker) and is moderately difficult.”

Leave Mexico City with a small group of up to 13 and hike from Paso de Cortés toward Cerro Altzomoni, with views of active Popocatépetl and Iztaccíhuatl. Guides such as Alan, Carlos, Bernardo, and César adjust the pace, explain local plants and volcano activity, and finish the day with a market lunch. Expect altitude, a possible 13-kilometer route, and about nine hours door to door.

“Amazing Tour! Absolutely stunning landscape, great guide. Absolutely recommended! We were in total 3 + guide - he offered us different options for our hike, some longer some shorter. We choosed the long one (~13km) and it was great. Almost no people, just we and the view 🤩🌋 Definitely the most beautiful tour of my life! Hope to come back and do it again soon!”

★★★★★★★★★★4.3 · 155 reviews · 11 hours · from $168

Leave Mexico City early for Paso de Cortés and La Joya in Popocatépetl-Iztaccíhuatl National Park. With an English or Spanish-speaking alpinist guide, hike 5 to 7 kilometers through steep, loose volcanic terrain, reaching roughly 4,270 meters. Guides such as Fabrizio, Gerson, Ivan, Sergio, and Leonardo have led this route.

“This was a fantastic tour. Super good value for the money. Amazing hike, stunning views. If you don’t have the time or level of endurance to scale the entire volcano, this tour is the second best thing. I’m not the most fit or athletic, and I still recommend this tour, if only for the scenery.”

“We had a wonderful time hiking in the beautiful volcano range with Carlos as our guide. Our group was small but we got along well, and the weather and scenery were both excellent. The hike was enjoyable but not too difficult and the pace of our group was relatively fast. Carlos is very attentive to everyone's needs. He is knowledgeable, warm, and spirited, and we felt well taken care of from pick up to drop off. It was a pleasure and an unforgettable part of our trip to Mexico City!”
